Kids love trains. Kids also love parties. Putting the two together, you can create some pretty incredible memories they are sure to hold onto for years to come.
If you have a tiny train lover in your life, you have likely considered throwing a train party at one time or another, and there’s no time like the present to do just that.
When planning your party, you may be stumped when it comes to entertainment. Of course, you could do the traditional piñata and “pin the tail on the donkey”-style games, but if you want your party to be truly spectacular, you will likely need to think outside the traditional party-game box.
One of the very best party entertainment ideas we’ve come across comes in the form of a “make and take” craft. This craft is perfect because it doubles as entertainment and a party favor, and it will likely be one of the best party favors your guests will ever see.
So what is this awesome craft? It’s a DIY train-play box! It is both affordable and reasonably easy to make, and it truly couldn’t be any more entertaining to put together and play with.
To make your play boxes, you will need:
- One clean pizza box per child
- Washable paint
- Paint brushes
- Black chart tape
- Bottlebrush trees
- Paint-your-own trains (or other inexpensive train toys)
Begin by having the children paint the insides of their boxes and their trains however they see fit. Make sure they know that the inside of the box will be their play mat, and where their tracks will be placed.
When the paint has dried, help each child use the chart tape to create a track on the inside of their box. Make sure to have the track size match the size of the trains that will be used in the boxes.
Give each child some of the tiny bottlebrush trees to set up in their play box, and watch as they have a blast playing with their new, unique toys.
