Have you or your library’s board of directors managed to put together a calendar of events for Library Card Sign-Up Month yet? If the answer is “negative”, why not surprise your community with a reading train event? They are a natural fit and would be easy to pull off with our trackless train rentals. Our trackless train rentals are available to libraries located in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties year round. But if you want to include one in your Library Card Sign-Up Month festivities, now is the time to make your reservations. In most instances, our party trains book out approximately 45 days in advance and we are accustom to working with non-profit groups’ budgets. Each train is capable of holding 12 to 18 potential library patrons at a time and we include a costumed conductor in with our modest rental price. So your library’s volunteers, existing patrons and librarians can focus on other things besides whose driving the kids around. For example, they could raffle off children’s books about trains, hand out library card applications and get the kids involved in railroad themed crafts. While we are on the subject of driving the kids around, our trains are 100% electric. Therefore, they may be safely ridden inside of the library’s children’s section or outside in the parking lot. If you don’t want to host the event in the library’s parking lot or children’s room, don’t fret. Because our trains are trackless, any open, flat surface in or around the library is likely to be sufficient. Oh, and if you want to add more to the event area’s decor, consider asking library volunteers to build a series of portable, train toy chests to use as extra seating and book grab bag containers. There are free train toy chest blueprints and build information readily available online. One of the places where you’ll find train toy chest plans is Skil Tools. Built from sturdy plywood, their toy box resembles a caboose and has a built-in checkerboard. Thus, it could feasibly be used in the children’s section of the library year round.
